Thursday, October 6 - Outside Pep Rally
All seniors and any other players who played in at least 1 varsity match this year should report to the Spirit Rock at 7:45PM. The pep rally begins at 8.

Meet at the corner of Hillcrest and St. Francis by 1:30PM. If you need a ride, please listen to the announcements for the bus number.

Tuesday, October 11 - Thursday, October 13 - Bag and post season ballot return.

Thursday, October 13 - Awards Night
We will meet in the high school Learning Center at 6:30PM to hand out end of season awards to all levels of Johnsburg golfers. The entire family is invited.

IHSA Regionals @ Antioch Golf Club - Tuesday, October 4, 2011

The Skyhawks concluded their golf season this afternoon at the IHSA Lakes Regional Golf Tournament. In quite possibly the nicest day ever in the history of the world to golf, the Skyhawks came up a couple of shots short of moving on to sectionals. All six golfers were within 10 strokes of each other, but it wasn't nearly enough to catch the tournament winner Vernon Hills.

Colin Goulet extended his high school career by playing 2 playoff holes for the last sectional qualifying spot. After tying of the first hole of sudden death, Colin looked to be in the drivers seat until his Wauconda Bulldog opponent hit his chip off of the flagstick and within 2 inches to steal the victory away from young Mr. Goulet.

In a regional warmup, the Skyhawks took 3rd place out of 4 teams on a brisk Saturday morning at Antioch Golf Club. The Skyhawks continued their consistent play scoring a 363.

Colin Goulet won the four team tournament shooting a 79. The Hawks finish their dual season record at 5 - 12.

Fox Valley Conference Tournament @ Pine Meadow in Mundelein - Thursday, September 29, 2011

The Skyhawks played at majestic Pine Meadow for the first time in a decade to play in the Fox Valley Conference Tournament. The major storms stayed away but that didn't mean it was entirely dry. Raining off and on for a couple of hours, conditions were tough. Huntley won their first ever FVC Tournament with an amazing 319, Jacobs finished the tournament in 2nd place, despite finishing 4th in their division during the regular season. The Skyhawks shot a 361, 5 days after shooting a 362 at Genoa. The 361 put Johnsburg in 12th place.

Colin Goulet finished two strokes away from all - conference honors with an 85. Jake Gasior's 91 was next best.

JHS - Fran Noyes Invite @ The Oak Club of Genoa - Saturday, September 24, 2011

The Skyhawks braved the cold, wet weather this morning in Genoa, IL to compete in the 15th Annual Fran Noyes Invite. Stableford scoring was the twist on the day as birdies were worth 4 points, pars worth 2 and bogeys were 1. The Skyhawks scored 79 points (six better than last year) and finished the 24 team tournament in 13th place (same as last year.)

Jake Gasior had 8 pars and 5 bogeys to lead the way with 21 points. (Last year Jake had 15 points.)
Cullen Mulvey - 6 pars and 5 bogeys to score 17 points.
Colin Goulet carded 3 pars and 10 bogeys to score 16 points.
Alec Brown scored 15 points with 4 pars and 7 bogeys. (Alec's 2010 score was 12 points.)
Ryan Baron had the only birdie for the Skyhawks today, 2 pars and 5 bogeys to score 13 points. (Ryan scored 11 points last year at the Fran Noyes Invite.)

With their 13th place finish, the Skyhawks are now 24-25 on the season. The next match is Monday at home against Grant. Check the schedule/lineup link to the right to see who is playing.

The Skyhawks played well again this afternoon, shooting in the 160s for their fourth consecutive round. Colin Goulet made 3 birdies en route to his team leading 38, tying for his low round of the year. Brian Legnaioli became the 3rd Skyhawk in a row to shoot a great varsity round after coming the course expecting to play JV. Brian's 41was his low round of the year. The Skyhawks have 1 dual match of the year and are currently 4-10 in dual matches.

The five varsity players in Saturday's tournament will practice on their own Friday. Saturday's bus time is 5:55 AM.

Zach Matejka broke out of his weeklong slump with a 44. Jacob Wright shot a career low with his 48. The JV Hawks are now 5-6 on the season with one dual match left.

The Skyhawks shot in the 160s for the 3rd time in a row and Cullen Mulvey briefly held the school record for lowest 9 hole score after getting an eagle on the first hole, but neither was enough to stop the Tigers from winning the match and taking first place in the conference with their 14 stroke victory. Cullen Mulvey shot a 39 with Jake Gasior adding a 40 to lead the Hawks. The Skyhawks finish in 5th place with a 1-4 record.

JHS vs. JHS Match Play @ Boone Creek - Monday, September 19, 2011

In an incredibly tight match, team B edged out team A, 5 matches to 4 and 13 holes to 10 to win the match play contest at practice today.

Colin Goulet started out the day winning by 2 for team A, but in the second group of the day, Jake Gasior's 37 won his match by 3 holes and Joey Kass won by 1. In the 3rd group, Steffan Miller won for team B and Corey Smith won for team A. After 3 groups, team A was up 3 matches to 2. Jake Wright won for team B in the fourth group and Luke Lobermeier for group A. In the last group, Pat Kuczwara won for team A to tie the match at 4 each. When Ben McFarlane turned his card in, team B was the winner. Coach will have some very valuable prizes to the winning team on Tuesday.

Congrats to the winners: Brown, Baron, Gasior, Kass, Miller, Blankenship, Wright, Wotring, McFarlane and Hernandez.

The Skyhawks went into the 160s for the second straight match and this time came away with a victory, 169 to 173 over the Knights from Grayslake North. Colin Goulet shot his second straight sub 40 round earning medalist honors with a 38. Alec Brown was 2 under after 5 including a spectacular 100+ yard pitching wedge, over a tree, for a birdie and finished with a 40. The Skyhawks won their first conference match of the year and are now 1-3 in the Fox Valley, 4 - 8 in dual matches and 13 - 11 including tournament finishes.

One putt, one penalty stroke, one shot. That was all that kept the Skyhawks from beating the Wolves in a non conference match on a gorgeous Monday afternoon. The Skyhawks shot their best round of the year and best round in the last two years, losing to the Wolves on a 5th score tiebreaker.

Ryan Baron, inserted into the lineup last minute because of an injury, shot his career lowest round with a 38 to earn medalist honors for the match. Colin Goulet's 39 gave the Hawks their first match of the year with two scores in the thirties. The loss drops the Skyhawks' record to 3-8 in duals and 12-11 overall.

The Skyhawk braved the horrible traffic of Randall Road to come to the Golf Club of Illinois and take on the Westminster Christian Warriors. The hour long commute didn't phase the Hawks at all as they beat the Warriors by 31 strokes. In a last minute change, the lineup went from 6 players to 8 and that put Ryan Baron in the lineup last minute. Ryan took advantage of the opportunity and came home as the match medalist, shooting a 41. Cullen Mulvey added a 42 to help the Skyhawks win their 3rd match of the year. The Skyhawks are now 3-4 in dual matches and 12-7 overall.

Grant Bulldog Invite @ Antioch Golf Course - Saturday, August 27, 2011

The Skyhawks bounced back after their defeat Thursday night to take 2nd place at the Grant Bulldog Invite. With all six players shooting 90 or better and all six players finishing in the top 16 individually, the Skyhawks had their best tournament finish in two years.

Alec Brown shot an 84 to pace the Hawks and earn 9th place. Colin Goulet's 85 took 10th place, Cullen Mulvey and Ben Dingman each shot 86s to take 11th and 12th place. Ryan Baron's 88 and Brian Legnaioli's 90 rounded out the scoring.

The boys golf teams played at the nicest course in the whole Fox Valley Conference and probably the most difficult when they visited Stonewall Orchard on Thursday. The varsity Hawks dropped their second conference match of the year to the Rams 173 to 190. Colin Goulet shot a 44 to lead the Skyhawks with Ryan Baron adding a 47. The Skyhawks are now 0-2 in the conference, 2-3 in duals and 5-5 overall.

In the opening night of the Fox Valley Conference season, the Skyhawks fell behind early but came back to take a lead but dropped a close one with the Blue Streaks 165 to 171. Jake Gasior played in his first match of the season and led the Hawks with a 41. Ryan Baron and Cullen Mulvey added 43s and Daniel Landon rounded out the scoring with a 44. The Skyhawks fall to 0-1 on the new season.

The Skyhawks opened up the 2011 season with a 3rd place finish at the Byron Tiger Invite this afternoon. The 2007 Illinois State Champions, Byron took first place with a team score of 308. Princeton finished 2nd with a 337 and the Skyhawks were 3 strokes behind with a 340.

Colin Goulet took 5th place in the 44 person field with an 83. Alec Brown finished strong and tied for 9th place.

Practice for juniors and seniors is at 10AM at Pro Circle, the freshmen and sophomores will practice at 9:15AM.

The 2011 high school golf season is just around the corner. Here is some very important information for the upcoming season.

Clearance cards must be turned into the Athletic Director's Office by Tuesday, August 9th at 3:30. You will NOT be able to tryout on the 10th without a clearance card turned in to the AD.
There will be a MANDATORY Code of Conduct meeting for both parents and athletes on Tuesday, August 2nd at 6PM. (This would also be a great time to turn in forms and get your clearance card.) The makeup date will be Tuesday, August 9th at 7AM. You will not be allowed to tryout if both you and your parents don't attend this meeting.
Tryouts for both varsity and junior varsity will be on Wednesday, August 10th beginning at 6:58AM at Boone Creek and Thursday, August 11th at 6:02AM at Boone Creek. TRANSPORTATION WILL NOT BE PROVIDED TO THE GOLF COURSE. It would be a great idea to show up at least 25 minutes early on Wednesday to make sure your paper work is correct and to warm up. Cost for the tryouts is $50, unless you are a member at Boone Creek. If you are a member, please bring you membership info to the AD's office when you get your clearance card.

You must bring your own clubs to tryouts
Please dress golf appropriate. No denim, shirts must be tucked in, shirts must have a collar. Pants must have a belt. Hats may be worn, but they must face forward.

The tentative schedule for the first two weeks of the season looks like this:

Wednesday, August 10 - Tryouts at Boone Creek starting at 6:58 AM
Thursday, August 11 - Tryouts at Boone Creek starting at 6:02 AM
Friday, August 12 - Practice at Pro Circle golf range in Spring Grove.

Freshmen and Sophomores will practice from 9:15AM until 10:30AM
Juniors and Seniors will practice from 10AM until 11:30AM

Monday, August 15th - Varsity Tournament at Byron,IL, Prairieview Golf Course - Tee Time is 1PM, Bus time is 10:45AM. This tournament is for 8 players. If you are not playing, you should practice on your own.
Tuesday, August 16th - Practice at Pro Circle

Freshmen and Sophomores will practice from 9:15AM until 10:30AM
Juniors and Seniors will practice from 10AM until 11:30AM

Wednesday, August 17th - F/S Tournament at Cary Country Club. Tee time is 7:30AM, Bus time is 6:30AM. This tournament is for 3 freshmen and 3 sophomores. If you are not playing, you should practice on your own.

This is our big fundraiser for the year. We will be running a putting contest around 11AM, grab a bite to eat, and then head out to the 17th and 18th holes to hit shots for the contestants. The 17th hole is a par 5 and you will be hitting drives and the 18th is a par 3 and we will be hitting tee shots.

This is for experienced golfers, if you want to come on out, please let Coach Frey know.

I just wanted to let you know that the 2011 MCJGA schedule is posted at www.mcjga.net and we are now accepting registration for membership and tournaments. For those of you not familiar with the MCJGA (McHenry County Junior Golf Association), our organization was started in 2001 and was designed to provide competitive playing opportunities for junior golfers in McHenry County. For 2011 our schedule includes a spring match play/league, eleven summer tournaments, a team event, a tournament of champions, and a fall tournament after the high school season. Membership is $45 and is open to junior golfers ages 13-18. The tournaments are 18 holes for boys and 9 holes for girls, entry fees are $40 for boys and $28 for girls. 2010 Golf Season Awards Night

This year's end of season awards night will be on Tuesday, October 26 at 6 PM in the Learning Center at the high school.

Parents, players, siblings, family pets are all invited!!!

Post season awards will be given out and each player will be individually recognized and given their awards. It should last about an hour.

Last year we served pizza, but this year I would like to keep it to snacks and desserts. So...

Freshmen players will be cups, plates, napkins and utensils.
Sophomore players will bring desserts, chips, dips, fruit or whatever else you would like to munch on.
Junior players will bring drinks.
Senior player can just show up.

McHenry County Junior Golf Association Fall Classic

If you still have the itch to play another competitive golf tournament, the McHenry County Junior Golf Association is having their Fall Classic on Saturday, October 23rd at Boone Creek. You do NOT have to be a MCJGA member to play, but if you are interested you need to let me know and I will register you.

The deadline is Wednesday, October 13th (this Wednesday) at midnight. The cost for the tournament, which includes lunch and awards, is $40.00. Let me know if you are interested.

On Monday, Ryan Baron, Colin Goulet and Rick Pries will make Johnsburg HS Boys Golf history if they can qualify for next weekend's IHSA Boys State Golf Tournament. This is Colin and Ryan's first sectional appearance ever, while Rick returns to sectionals after missing a state berth by one stroke last year. Ryan tees off at 10 am, Rick at 10:10 and Colin around 10:50.

Equipment Turn In

All golfers will turn in their all of their equipment this week. Please bring your shirts, pullovers, rainsuits, stocking caps, jackets and windshirts to Coach Frey's classroom (113) by Friday of this week. If I am NOT in my room, make sure your apparel is in a bag with your name on it. If it gets dumped on my desk, you will not receive credit for turning it in.

Failure to turn in equipment or pay for missing equipment by Friday will result in detention time. (If you think I'm kidding ask Kevin Meagher Class of 03, Bill Wiltse Class of 09 and about 4 others)

Rick Pries, Ryan Baron and Colin Goulet can hold onto their stuff, because they'll be playing in the state tournament this week.

The Skyhawks competed in the FVC Tournament on an absolutely beautiful day at the always difficult Oak Grove Golf Course in Alden. Crystal Lake South, as expected, ran away with the tournament while the Skyhawks shot their season average and finished with a 369 to finish in 12th place.

Rick Pries shot a 39 on the front nine and a 43 on the back to finish with an 82. Rick's score earned him 13th place overall and an All Conference nod.

Fran Noyes Invite @ The Oak Club of Genoa - Saturday, September 25, 2010

After years of getting beat up, the renowned Oak Club of Genoa fought back on Saturday and showed how tough of a course it used to be. The Skyhawks scored 73 (not 70 as your math teacher coach calculated) and finished in 13th place out of 22 teams. Rockford Lutheran scored 115 points in the modified stableford scoring where eagles were worth 7 points, birdies were 4, pars 2 and bogeys 1 to take first place.

Colin Goulet scored 19 points to lead the Skyhawks with Rick Pries adding 18. Jake Gasior had 15, Alec Brown 12 and Ryan Baron finished with 11.

The 13th place finish improves the varsity's record to 13 - 28,

The Skyhawks travel to Renwood Golf Course tomorrow to take on Grayslake North. Bus time is 2:30.

I totally forgot that Friday is the Homecoming parade. So... we won't have practice because of the parade.

Speaking of the parade, I have two spots reserved for you. My advice is to grab a piece of poster board, write JOHNSBURG BOYS GOLF on it and then ride in someone's truck. I believe John Rackow has volunteered a vehicle.

If you want to ride in the parade work it out amongst yourself. Jake Gasior, you're in charge.

Rick Pries looked like he's getting back to form adding a 41. The Chargers move to 4-4 in the Fox Valley, while the Skyhawks are still looking for their first victory, falling to 0-8.

The 7 varsity golfers combined for their best top to bottom round of the year, but dropped to 0-7 in the Fox Valley and 1-9 overall. Colin Goulet shot his best round of the year with a 40 to lead the Hawks.

Next up for the Skyhawks: Dundee Crown visits Boone Creek on Tuesday.

The Hawks shot a 168 to finish in 2nd place, 2 strokes behind the host Tigers. Rick Pries shot a 41 to finish in 3rd place, Colin Goulet's 41 was good enough for 4th, Jake Gasior and Cullen Mulvey each shot 45s, but Jake edged out Cullen for the 10th spot.

Golf Tryout Times Set

Tryouts for the fall 2010 Skyhawk golf season will be held on Wednesday, August 11th and Thursday, August 12th at Boone Creek Golf Course, 6912 Mason Hill Road, Bull Valley, IL.

The first tee time will be at 6:34AM. Golfers should be at Boone Creek and ready to tee off at 6:10AM.

Each day should take between 4 and 5 hours to complete.

Transportation to and from the course will the responsibility of each golfer.

Greens fees and range balls are included in your tryout fee.

Golf Tryouts

Date: Wednesday, August 11th and Thursday, August 12th and Saturday, August 14th if necessary
Location: To Be Announced
In order to tryout, each athlete has to have a clearance card before tryouts begin. For questions regarding clearance cards please contact Mr. Harbecke or Ms. Cavanaugh
There is a $50 tryout fee/green fee to tryout in addition to the $60 sports fee to the high school.
Depending on the number of students trying out, there could be cuts made.

Summer Golf Opportunities

Summer golf tournaments are a great way to get ready for the upcoming golf season.
McHenry County Junior Golf Association is an excellent local set of tournaments.
